Who is Roberta?

Roberta Battaglia, a 10-year-old from Brampton, Ontario, has the presence and voice that demands your attention—this spunky and confident young girl has the voice of Pink, and the poise and stage presence of Adele.

I first saw Roberta perform at Vesuvio Ristorante, a pizzeria in Brampton. Roberta and her dad, Alessandro, were set up at the back of the restaurant and she started singing At Last by Etta James. By the time she finished singing the first line of this song, the entire restaurant had already turned to watch her in awe.

When the song was finished, she put down her sparkly pink microphone and skipped happily offstage to sit with her mother, Gabriella.

Her dad continued to sing and play the piano, and the entire restaurant was buzzing with questions. “How old is she?”, “Who is she?”, “What just happened?” were some of the things I heard as I chased Roberta back to her seat. I was at a loss for words, but I praised her outstanding talent and she smiled so brightly and thanked me. We continued to talk and I found myself fascinated by her.

Maybe she's born with it!

If you were to speak to Roberta, you would not know that her little frame could house such a powerful singing voice—not to mention that she does not have the prima donna attitude that many people with her remarkable talent convey. I asked her if I would be able to interview her in the future and she was unbelievably humble and gracious. She acted surprised that someone would want to write a story about her.

Although she is only 10 years old, her mannerisms, poise, and confidence are that of an adult. Her first performance was at the age of 2 and a half, when she sang in front of an audience of about 300 people. As a determined 4-year-old, she insisted on entering a local talent competition, even though she was too young. “Mommy, I’m going to go and I’m going to win!” she told her mom, Gabriella. To the surprise of many, she came in second place out of 300 qualified competitors. Roberta recalls this day as “the best day of my life”.

Since then she has been performing alongside her father, at ma

ny functions and events and at a regular weekend gig at a local restaurant. The restaurant staff proudly state that she is a huge attraction for the clientele on Saturday evenings.

Roberta's Music Career

She was approached by a music producer, who found her through her YouTube channel, and was so impressed by her talent that he presented her with a two contract. Gabriella was apprehensive about having her daughter involved in the music industry at such an early age, “First thing I told him when we did the contract was that we have to keep in mind she’s a 9-year-old. There will be times where she will be tired and she won’t be able to do it and we have to call it a wrap, then *snap* it’s a wrap!” After many discussions with the producer and record company she was reassured that this would be a positive journey for Roberta.

Roberta’s first original song, Afraid to Love, was released on November 28th of this 2018, and we can expect her entire album to be completed and launched by May of 2019. Roberta describes her song as giving her a “good vibe”.

She interprets the lyrics of the song as her own personal music journey and the anticipation of what will happen in her future. Her mom really likes the song because for her the message is about regaining the love for one another that the world seems to have lost.

Roberta’s talent and modest nature, fostered by her supportive parents, uniquely combine to create a magnetic personality that demands your attention and admiration. Her performance to date has been awe-inspiring and leads us to believe that we can expect great things from her in the near future.
